Any time that blood is present in feces, there is a problem and you should be in contact with your veterinarian. Diarrhea can be caused by stress, prescription drugs, eating something that can become stuck in the stomach or intestines, parasites, salmonella, or rancid food. Sometimes just a change in diets can cause severe bloody diarrhea. When your pet has diarrhea and vomiting, dehydration can occur and a trip to the hospital is definitely warranted. If you are concerned, call the hospital and talk to anyone on our team.
